WVU Tops #25 Ohio State
Da’Sean Butler and the Mountaineers roadblocked revenge for the Ohio State Buckeyes in a much closer game than last years 76-48 contest. West Virginia was able to overcome a 12-point halftime deficit to rally back and win with a final score of 71-65. The Mountaineers trailed by as many as 14 in the game in yet another slow start.
West Virginia (15-3, 4-2) started out slow, trailing 8-0 to begin the game. The Mountaineers, however, had a run of their own by scoring the first 10 points of the second half.
Butler led the way for the Mountaineers by scoring 21 points, 16 of them being in the second half. Butler was key in their momentum building second half. Darryl Bryant contributed 14 points and Wellington Smith adding 11 himself. Devin Ebanks had a quiet night with 7 points as he continues to struggle.
The Mountaineers main focus was on Ohio State’s star Evan Turner who scored 18 points and snagged 11 rebounds but could not keep Guard William Buford in check as he lead all scorers with 22 points.
During Saturdays game, West Virginia basketball legend Hot Rod Hundley had his #33 retired.
